Navy is what people buy when they want a dark gi that is not black.
It reads cleaner than black under gym lighting, it does not go dusty-looking the way faded black does, and it is dark enough that a bad day on the mats does not show on the fabric. Of the dark colors, it ages the best.
The Midnight Elite is a 350 GSM cotton pearl weave — our training weight, and the one most people should be buying. It has real structure through the collar and lapel without the heat you get from a 380 GSM competition jacket.
Being straight with you about one thing: navy is not IBJJF legal. The federation permits white, royal blue and black, and navy is not royal blue. Referees check this at inspection and they turn people away for it. This is a training gi and a local-competition gi, not a tournament gi.
That is not a reason to skip it. Most people train far more than they compete, and a gi you actually enjoy wearing four nights a week is worth more than a third white gi sitting in the closet.
Pants are 280 GSM cotton ripstop with reinforced knees and a rope drawstring through six loops.
